Routine Podiatry Care

Foot pain can come from many different issues that can present on the feet. Routine foot treatments can make a huge difference to your lifestyle. Whether you find it hard to reach your feet to cut your nails or whether you have cracked heels and corns, within a 30-45 minute appointment your feet will be made to feel better, instantly.  From your first appointment, you feet will be looked after and treated effectively, then a management programme will be discussed with you. People often comment on how amazing their feet feel and that they “are floating on air” as they leave.  Below are details of some common issues treated in our clinics.

CallusThis is also known as hard skin, and it is created as a response of repetitive stress and pressure.  As a form of skin protection, the skin cells harden to stop the skin from being damaged.  However, over time this protection can create a thick layer increasing pressure and creating discomfort.  On the heels, callus can sometimes cause skin to pull, split or breaks.  These can be very sore and need immediate management.  After a painless routine treatment, it can create instant relief.  A discussion about self care, management and pressure offloading can make a significant difference to its re-development.  At FootPro Podiatry we provide painless treatment of callus with professional scalpel debridement, which will relieve all of your symptoms caused by these build ups, and make them look and feel better straight away!

Corns These are common skin lesions which form in localised areas of hard skin.  Often feeling like a stone in the skin, corns can can be painful, become inflamed and in some cases they breakdown the soft skin beneath and cause a wound.  They develop in response to continual acute friction and pressure.  Like hard skin they develop as a natural skin response to try and protect the skin.  Though normally hard, often pain can come from between the toes where the corns feel softer.  These are known as soft corns because of the excess fluid between the toes.  At FootPro we provide slow, gradual and careful enucleation. After the painless removal, instant relief can be felt.  We will then provide you with advice about how to stop the corns developing again in the future.

Damaged Nails – often a heavy trauma, or repetitive force on the nails can damage the nail bed or cause bruising under the nail.  This can sometimes cause altered nail growth and thickening of the nails.  Advice and treatment is very important to prevent long term issues and to improve comfort for the patient.  Observation is very important to rule out other reasons for the change in the condition of the nails.  Nails can also be affected by skin conditions such as psoarasis and other sysetemic issues. At FootPro Podiatry we can make sure we offer you accurate diagnosis and reasons for these nail issues.  We provide professional treatment and advice to ensure these problem nails don’t affect your comfort during the steps you take.

Hiperhydosis – a condition that can affect many parts of the body, including the feet.  It is caused by increased sweat production, create unpleasant smells, cause patients to become overly self conscious and can ruin footwear.  At its worst, it can also cause other skin infections to occur.  It can be related to many different issues, including age. At FootPro Podiatry we will take time to observe your condition and discuss a management plan to help improve a patients outlook with the condition. We have several products which can really help improve the severity of condition and the impact on the skin.

Hipohidrosis – a condition defined by a diminished ability to sweat.  On the feet, this can cause cracking, thicker callus and corn development.  This happens because with reduced sweating, the skin has less elasticity and with pressure, this creates thicker skin to develop to protect the sensitive skin tissue beneath. Often though these secondary issues are easily treated, management of the condition is paramount, and so a plan for self-care will be issued to any patient with this condition.  At FootPro Podiatry we provide you with effective treatment and guide you to the correct management options for you.
